Default Fun hunt

I got out for a solo hunt yesterday after being out of the marsh for way to long!

As mentioned in a previous thread it was slow but really picked up in the end. My goal was an all drake limit as I have not done that in recent years, maybe ever??

Well I started out the day with a beautiful Pintail. Dang, now I had to watch birds for a bit cause there are a ton of them in the marsh right now!

The day was slow so I took a single drake shoveler that came drifting by.

Pretty soon the mallards started to fly along with the wigeon. I shot one of each.

Another small group of mallards came by for a look and I took this nice drake.

Now the clock was really pushing me. I only had about 15 minutes left and although I wanted my all drake pile, I also like to get my limit and I have very little self control with ducks!!

During a lull, I was texting my buddy and I looked up and this single GWT was in my face doing about 100 miles an hour lol. I shot and she fell. Unfortunately she took the full pattern but I still got some meat out of her.

Now I was down to about 5 minutes left. Birds were flying but not over me! I crossed my fingers and had 3 gadwall come right over me. With 3 minutes to spare I dumped this nice drake.

Although it is a bit of work this time of year, I sure love getting out and enjoying the late season birds. They are beautiful in their full plumage.

Hope itís not my last hunt this season but if it is, it was a great one!

Great mixed bag! 6 species, 7 birds - I’ll take that any day. A hen GWT ruined my all drake limit too. Shot at the drake and she dropped too.

Were you in a layout out there?

Thanks! It was a really fun day. I know how that works with the hens. I typically aim at the drake pintail and hit a hen!

Nah I was laying in the muck... I found a decent spot!
