If it were me (my daughter had that tag last year) -- I'd still head south to the Sands. I know it's still early, and hot, but I think the reward may be worth the risk.

How'd you guys do last year on that hunt? Sounds like there were enough deer migrated down to the sands to make it worth your time?

There are always deer down there. Even in the summer.

Last year on the early hunt we spent a few days hunting the Burnt Flat Gultch area (The Muddy's). There were a lot of deer in that area. There were also a lot of hunters. We saw some very nice bucks.

We also spent a couple days south of highway 9, but north of the Virgin River. There is a lot of good area out there. We saw a dandy heading out a narrow spine of a point between Mineral Gulch and the Virgin. It was very evident that a lot of deer were already moving out to the desert.

Those deer don't wait for bad weather to begin their migration. When the time is right, they just go. Some are moving already.
