Mantua, first trip of the year.

Postby IYAAYAS » Jul 25, '10, 5:28

Made my first run at Mantua today. I was going to go to Willard as usual but decided to keep on driving and explore a bit. Got a bit of a late start so I did not get on the water until about 0730 or so and fished until like 1130. My depth finder decided not to work so I had to pretty much look at the bottom and navigate that way which is not too bad at Mantua but some of the deeper pockets you can't tell how deep it is. Conditions were bright and sunny about 80-90+ degrees most of the time I was there and the water was very clear. Ended up landing 5 bass and losing another 6, the biggest 16.5 inches, 2 lbs., then 13 inches, 1lb., being the next biggest, the rest were smaller. I was pleased with the 2 pounder though, those are a fun size for sure. 1 on a black culprit worm, 2 on watermelon red tiki worm, 1 on watermelon gold trick worm, 1 on lucky strike sexy shad crank bait. I didn't feel like messing with the bluegill at all but I saw hundreds of those and a few trout. Was pretty bummed though, I lost what I figure comfortably was a 5+ pounder, he had the worm, I saw him take off with it, I went to set the hook and he spit it out, I saw him though and he was a big healthy fish! I'll get him next time. All and all a great trip, my bass skills are still there just a little rusty, good to know that some of the tricks I used down south will catch fish here too.

Good on ya. :D I'm glad you're part of the club. If you were able to hook up with the biggie, he would have headed to the weeds and dislodged the hook, probably, but it was fun, huh? Good luck next time. :D If ya want to give it up as to where, a pm would do it. :D :D

Nice Job...yep Mantua has some nice largies in that little pond just have to figure out the weed beds there and there's a lot of weeds which I'm sure you noted also. It's a fun place to fish without a doubt. ;) ;)

Thanks guys! Yeah, I found a little something out but it requires some more exploring so I cannot share at this point. If my plan works out though you may see a nice picture on here in the near future!

Yeah Lunker, it's a neat little place, water is a little nasty but the bass love that stuff...Good time though for sure, next time I will get the early start though.
