Think'n this was our last hard deck trip on PV this season. Arrival temp was 16* departure 34*. Launch point was via the Stringtown Road. Few bare spots on the trail leading to the ice. Ice Condition: Edges are firm and solid from the Stringtown path. Ice has 'no-slush' at all walked on the very top never busting through the entire day. First 6-8" is frozen pretty much solid then as the auger popped through it would drop down 3" to the next previous slush layer. Today for sure it would've been safe for ATVs and I'm think'n tomorrow also (depending on this forecasted storm). Still about 12-14" of solid black ice beneath 8-10" of frozen slush. Ice was singing to us mainly in the mid morning. Saw one snowmobile coming on the ice as we were leaving at a little after 5. Pics of ice.

- Note no busting through walked on top of the ice all day

- Ice as we were leaving

- Edges at Stringtown path
Fish'n rating was very good. Started out in deeper water 42-45' in search of Crappie. Only takers were dink Perch and one dink Crappie. Worked the deeper water in hopes of finding them Crappie. Decided to move in to 32-35' and found the nice size Perch. Lures used were Ants tipped with Perch eye/meat. An older gent came on the ice about 3PM and setup about 50' from us and found the Crappie. Only fish visting our offerings and topside were Perch...and the dink Perch were out in force. Think'n the PV ice will be good for a few more days and it will all depend on what type of storm possibly for tomorrow. Next week with really warm temps predicted this weekend may be the last for PV unless it gets really cold. Sure hope you all have a great weekend....

Good to see you made it back for the Perch one more time. Too bad the Crappie were not willing to play today.
I'm ready for soft water now. I have my eyes on Willard. Next week should be interesting.

Drove past the east side this morning and there was a little bit of open water on the edges. It also rained for about and hour at about 1000 this morning. Currently it is snowing. Next week looks real warm. See what happens.

Without a doubt you and yours will be on the end of the rod when one of them toothy critters takes the offerings. Don't worry about bringing a thing except drinks and eats for you and yours. We'll be in touch. mm73 wrote:Anyone been up there this week? Is the ice still safe? I am looking for some place to take a bunch of kids tomorrow...
Per my son a couple days ago on his way up and back from snowboarding via Powder Mountain he saw a few folks up the Narrows (aka the area up by the dam). Ice overall to him was grey looking. My recommendation is this time of year ice/slush will be iffy and for kids...I'd look to next year. Kids want to catch fish and have fun...wet/cold feet will kill the hard deck experience and thats what the kids will remember. Look to a community pond and have fun. We've hung up the short rods...no need to push it as we had fun and we're two ole bitty bags now waiting for the soft water and rising water temps to target various favorite water species.

Bring on the spring fishing! I love hitting the back water in May on this Reservoir. Crappie, Bass and Tigers are a good opportunity in the spring, and well worth the the effort. I still need to land my first Tiger though. I've been real close a couple of times.
