Middle Provo and a slap in the face....

Postby Tigru » Mar 08, '10, 10:45

I took advantage of some nicer weather and hit one of my favorite sections of the middle Provo. I fared well with Bows and pulled in 6. None were over 14 inches, but all fought hard

I also hooked up with a couple Browns but didn't manage to land either (not in the traditional sense anyway). Brown #1 was just a little guy and I hooked him within a foot of me. In a combination of me setting the hook and it jumping out of the water it managed it hit (slap) me in the face spit the hook and swam away. I was just above waist deep wading in the water so it wasn't that crazy of a feat, but it was still pretty hilarious. I just wish I could have seen the look on my face after it happened. I've always operated under the rule of "if you touched it, you caught it" so I guess I technically "caught" it (in the face) but anyhoo...

Brown #2 will probably give me nightmares tonight. It most likely would have been the biggest Brown I've caught to date. It was thick, hearty, had nice colors and was very easily well over 20". With about 8 feet to go it leaped 2 feet out of the water thrashing its head and threw the hook and left me looking on sullen and down trodden. A classic "the one that caught away" story. Anyways I had a blast, but I've decided that I'm having some serious spring fever. Bring on the soft water!!!!

Well I'm glad the fish got some revenge, even though it was just a slap.

Too bad about the hog though. That's what fuels the obsession, right?

Nice report! That rainbow looks like it has its "spawning colors" Thats how they looked on the Logan river last saturday, caught about a dozen or so and only 1 brown.
