Fishing near Escalante

Postby burge » Mar 09, '10, 1:08

I will be hiking coyote gulch on the 20th this month. I would like to go a day early and get some fishing in but i am not sure where to go or what the conditions are like. Is the road to lower bowns passable with a car?, or is 4 wheel drive required? Any info would would be much appreciated.

I doubt you will be able to get to Lower Bowns this early without snow machines. They have had a "ton" of snow down that way. We hope to be able to get to some of our favorites in April. I don't know how high Wide Hollow Res. is, but I'm sure anything higher will be snowed in.

Wide Hollow Res. is dry this year due to new dam construction.

Lots of snow, Posey is inaccessible...

+2 No go on lower bowns and yes on calf creek. If you dont fly fish throw small blue fox spinners. #1 or 2. silver or gold.

Calf creek sounds pretty good. What about bicknell bottoms? Maybe stop there on the way. Is there any good access points for that strech of the river? Thanks for the info guys, keep it comming.

Why not hit something that's not so far south? The Sevier and the Fremont aren't too far out of the way if you take the Boulder way to Escalante.

Just curious, where are you dropping into the gulch, and coming out?

My wife and I are planning on camping down Hole in the Rock road that weekend too... Hope the weather isn't to bad, but we want to hike down to Lake Powell from Hole in the Rock and do some fishing. I have fished there many times but usually in April and we get there by boat. We would like to do Coyote Gluch sometime, hopefully this Fall. Maybe we will pass you out there somewhere.

about 10 years ago we went down there as scouts and camped out up a canyon out there and fished alot at a small lake called posey lake and there were many other lakes up that canyon but we mainly stayed at posey the fishing was really good nice fat rainbows and plenty of them as well we mainly used lures but they were taking the bait as well had one fish dragging the canoe around the lake for a bit before we lost it

and if you are wanting to drive a bit farther theres willow lake over a few miles from bryce canyon that has always faired me well with some more fat rainbows and they are also very tasty there the issue with both places is they are very weedy and thick every where
here fishey fishey fishey come bend my pole

opinions are like assholes and armpits we all have them and they stink
