Default Yuba ?

Does anyone ice fish yuba for pike? Is the walleye fishing worth the drive? I've been dying to catch a pike and after 3 years of missing the spawn by a week or two want to fish it every chances.

I don't know if there are any Walleye left. Last I heard, they ate there own kids to survive because of the lack of small fish to eat. Lets load Yuba up with chubs from Schofield, and give the toothy dudes something to eat.

a few years back there was pretty good ice fishing for pike, but reports have been pretty dismal the past 2 winters

I was talking to a fish cop down there last year and he said they won't eat the carp unless they're starving to death. Interesting that even fish know they are trash.

They are opportunistic predators, if the right size carp is in front of a pike, they will eat it no problem... Yuba is a boom and bust fishery due to the water level. 5-6 years ago we had a great boom in pike and then yuba became relevant again and the masses flooded down there to pull every pike out of the water. The pike are now mostly gone. There are still some big ones in there but I wouldn't bother with it, it's basically turned into musky fishing, and if that's the case you're better off fishing for musky.. If we get some consistent water years than the pike will be back and hopefully some perch and walleye.

The fall netting showed no perch. Few walley and two classes of pike, mid and older class. The mid class pike had empty stomachs and the large class was now eating carp. They said whats left of the fish population is likely to crash this year. On the Bright side they also said it is likely to produce some new records for pike this year.
